Numbur Cheese and Dudh Kunda Circuit Trekking is one of the best off the beaten route in the foothills of Numbur Peak, and falls in both Gaurishankar Conservation Area and Sagarmatha National Park. Only opened in 2009 for foreigners, this is fairly new route, yet unspoiled and untouched serenity. This trek is good chance to observe the rich mixed bio-diversity of vegetation, which makes it possible to habitat endangered species like Red Panda, Himalayan Thar etc, and in spring, a colorful rhododendron forest is amazing with backdrops of snow capped peaks. Numbur Cheese Circuit Trek is named in the honor of Numbur Chuli Peak – which is also regarded as holy mountain and believe to be the protector of the area.
Numbur Cheese and Dudh Kunda Trekking starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Shivalaya and ascend towards the remote settlements of Khahare and Pani Pakha, and pass through tranquil five lakes – known as Panch Pokhari. We cross over Gyajola Pass and stay amazed at impressive sight of world highest mountain range including Everest, Gaurishankar, Langtang, Numbur Cheese continuing our journey towards the scared lake of Dudh Kunda. We pass through several small and medium monasteries and lakes during our course and have a chance to wash away our sins. It is believed that if someone takes a three dips in the Dudh Kunda Lake then their sin will be washed away which attracts Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims during festival season. We descend from lake and pay a visit to old Thupten Choling Monastery at Junbesi and slowly arrive at Salleri, from where we will drive back to Kathmandu.
